Ministry of Agriculture & FAO Launch Distance Learning Courses for Students in Agricultural Technical Schools
The courses come in the context of general mobilization declared by the Council of Ministers, and serves to ensure educational continuity.
Following the Council of Ministers’ decision dated 15 March 2020 to declare general mobilization to control the spread of COVID-19, the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), in collaboration with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), launched on March 16, a distance learning programme for students enrolled in the baccalaureate programs (BTA) at the Agricultural Technical Schools in Lebanon.

The students will be guided throughout their learning by schoolteachers, through WhatsApp groups. These teaching programs were developed with the support of the Welfare Association for Research and Development (WARD), a partner of the FAO project titled “Upgrading the Technical Agriculture Education System in Lebanon”.
The project, which is funded by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, aims at enhancing the employability of young Lebanese along with displaced Syrians and other refugees in Lebanon. It offers them the opportunity to acquire the necessary technical skills to access improved career opportunities in agriculture and agribusiness in Lebanon or in Syria upon their return.
The project is implemented by FAO in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, UNICEF, ILO, and AVSI (an international NGO) and WARD (a National NGO).
