Speech by Imran Riza, UN Deputy Special Coordinator, Resident & Humanitarian Coordinator for Lebanon at the Inauguration of Kab Elias Integration-Center.
Ladies and gentlemen,
It is a great pleasure to join you today to witness and recognize the remarkable work being done here in Kab Elias municipality in addressing the needs of the most vulnerable populations in the community.
This municipality's efforts to modernize service provision and establish an e-Governance and Integration Center are truly commendable, especially in the face of the severe economic crisis that has gripped Lebanon. In these challenging times, it is heartening to see a bright example of good governance that invests in the wellbeing of children, youth, and women.
Lebanon is facing complexities on multiple fronts, and we recognize that municipalities and local institutions are the first responders in times of crisis, and they play a vital role in delivering services to their people. By actively engaging with municipalities and community members, and empowering them, we can build inclusive partnerships that tailor interventions according to the actual needs of the people, making our actions more effective and sustainable.
To achieve this, the United Nations has been working diligently to mobilize resources, strengthen local governance systems and support municipalities to improve their efficiency in reaching the most vulnerable and safeguarding their wellbeing; and this project, that is a first in Lebanon, is a living example.
Before I conclude, I want to assure you all that the United Nations will continue to make every effort to support Lebanon at both national and sub-national levels. Our commitment is not merely rhetoric; it is a call to action. Through stronger collaboration and active engagement with local authorities and communities, we can make a lasting impact.
Thank you once again for having me here today, and I look forward to witnessing the continued progress and positive change in Kab Elias and beyond.
Thank You
