01 November 2023, Beirut, Lebanon -- As hostilities escalate on the border between Lebanon and Israel, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Dr Ahmed Al-Mandhari has concluded a visit to Beirut, where he met with the Prime Minister, the Minister of Health, UN partners, and WHO staff to reinforce health system preparedness for a potential escalation of the conflict. Over the past few weeks, hostilities have expanded beyond the border into southern Lebanon, with 42 people killed, 193 injured and almost 29,000 internally displaced since the start of the cross-border conflict.

Beirut, 25 November 2023 – The United Nations (UN) system in Lebanon in partnership with the National Commission for Lebanese Women (NCLW) have come together to kick off the international campaign on 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence to galvanize efforts to prevent and ultimately end the scourge of violence against women and girls, which is escalating amid the current multi-layered crisis. The campaign runs from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, until 10 December, International Human Rights Day.
Beirut, 24 November 2023 -- Minister of Agriculture, Abbas Hajj Hassan, and FAO Representative in Lebanon, Nora Ourabah Haddad, signed a project agreement today funded by the Government of Canada (CAD$20 million).
