• Beirut, 12 December 2023: The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in the presence of the Japanese Ambassador to Lebanon, H.E. Magoshi Masayuki and the Mayor of Tripoli, Ahmad Kamareddine joined women and youth beneficiaries as they marked the completion of their urban farming and food production course.

• 12 December 2023, Beirut, Lebanon: The Minister of Public Health, Dr. Firass Al-Abiad, accompanied by WHO representative in Lebanon Dr. Abdinasir Abubakar and the German Ambassador to Lebanon, Mr. Kurt Georg Stoeckl-Stillfried, visited the Ministry of Public Health’s Central Drug Warehouse for the handing over of trauma and emergency surgical kits (TESK) procured through WHO under the readiness and response plan in the face the ongoing border conflict.

New legislation, developed with extensive technical support from the ILO, is considered among the most significant socioeconomic reforms Lebanon has witnessed over the past three decades. Attention now turns towards ensuring its prompt implementation. 

• BEIRUT (ILO News), 15 December 2023 - The Parliament of Lebanon has passed a law that establishes a comprehensive pension system for private sector workers and fundamentally reshapes the governance of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).

• 24 January 2024 – France, through the French Development Agency (AFD) announced a new 14.7 million Euros contribution to the education sector in Lebanon to ensure equitable access to quality, relevant and inclusive learning and development services for the most disadvantaged girls and boys over two school years. The contribution also aims to improve the governance and efficiency of the education sector while supporting structural reforms through the Transition Resilience Education Fund (TREF). The announcement was made on the International Day of Education by the French Ambassador to Lebanon M. Hervé Magro and the AFD Director Mrs. Catherine Bonnaud during a joint field visit to Uruguay public school attended by the Minister of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) Dr. Abbas El Halabi and UNICEF Representative Mr. Edouard Beigbeder.
