UN-Habitat and Ministry of Social Affairs launch road maps toward socioeconomic development with ten unions of municipalities
  • Beirut, 20 February 2024: Under the patronage and in the presence of Lebanese Minister of Social Affairs, Dr. Hector Al-Hajjar, UN-Habitat marked the successful completion of the project "Improving planning capacities for social and economic local development” funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, marking a significant milestone in the socioeconomic development journey of local authorities.

UN-Habitat initiates rehabilitation of four residential heritage buildings under BERYT project
  • Beirut, 27 February 2024: The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) has begun physical rehabilitation works on an initial batch of four residential buildings of heritage value that were severely damaged by the Beirut Port explosion. This activity is part of the Beirut Housing Rehabilitation and Cultural and Creative Industries Recovery project, also known as BERYT, funded by the Lebanon Financing Facility, a multi-donor trust fund administered by the World Bank.

Special Coordinator Urges De-escalation and Steps Towards Longer-Term Solutions
  • Beirut, 27 February 2024. The UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Ms. Joanna Wronecka is deeply concerned by the gradual expansion in the exchange of fire across the Blue Line in scope, scale and intensity, which increases the risks of a broader conflagration and undermines Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006).  She urges an immediate halt to this dangerous cycle of violence and return to a cessation of hostilities
