Statement of the UN Special Coordinator on the municipal elections in Lebanon
  • Beirut, 3 April 2023 -- The UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, welcomes today’s announcement by Lebanon’s caretaker Minister of Interior and Municipalities calling for municipal elections during 7 May through 28 May 2023. Conducting the municipal elections is important for adhering to Lebanon’s constitutional timelines and democratic practices, at a time when the country is already facing a presidential vacancy and widespread institutional paralysis.

WHO oversees a Memorandum of Understanding between the Task Force for Global Health and the Ministry of Public Health to ensure Influenza vaccine for Lebanon
  • 4 April 2023, Beirut -- The Minister of Public Health Dr. Firass Abiad signed today a Memorandum Of Agreement with the Task Force for Global Health represented by PIVI Director Dr. Joseph Bresee in the presence of the WHO team represented by Team Lead Dr. Alissar Rady and the presence of WHO-EMRO representative Dr. Rania Attia. The MOU marks the start of Lebanon’s eligibility to become a PIVI (Partnership for Influenza Vaccine Introduction) partner country. It has become one of 21 countries that are benefitting from PIVI eligibility and support.

Reform, Recovery, and Reconstruction Framework (3RF): Co-chair Statement by the Prime Minister of Lebanon, the UN Resident Coordinator, and Representatives of Donors and Lebanese Civil Society
  • Beirut, April 12, 2023 - The Reform, Recovery and Reconstruction Framework (3RF) was set up after the devastating explosion in the Port of Beirut, as a uniquely inclusive platform to coordinate people-centred recovery in the affected areas, as well as provide a comprehensive plan to support national reforms and investments in reconstruction.

UNOPS launches two Call for Proposals in Lebanon
  • Beirut, April 6, 2023 – Funded by the German Government through the KfW Development Bank, UNOPS launched two calls for proposals under the Sustainable Integrated Municipal Actions project (SIMA) to support the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Beirut in the operational management and maintenance of two project sites, UNESCO Palace and Beit Beirut in Beirut, Lebanon.
